General Data Protection Regulation

As a administrator of a Funkwhale instance you might have to comply with the European GDPR. This is the case if your server is open to registration from european users or if federation is enabled (because the server will receive data from Europe). If you use Funkwhale with its default configuration you should only have to worry about log retention but we encourage you to read the GDRP checklist.

Privacy policy

We provide a default privacy policy page that describe the default behaviour of the Funkhale software. We encourage you to read it and to change it according to your needs. Go to the admin settings, click on Use full GDPR template and fill the information. If you want to read another template this privacy policy generator was built in the context of a federated network and might help you in this task.

Log retention

Article 5e of the GDPR state that you shouldn’t keep personal data more time than needed. Funkwhale should delete unnecessary data but we can’t configure your log retentioin policy for you. Logs are saved by your reverse proxy and by your docker containers. You can use logrotate to automatically delete logs.
